About Vista Living

Vista Living has provided residential assisted living and memory care in Phoenix for over 10 years. Its homes are intentionally small, with two caregivers for every ten residents, and are licensed by the Arizona Department of Health Services. Homes are in Paradise Valley, Arcadia, Camelback and Camelback View.

Families choosing memory care for a parent research for weeks before they book a tour. If Vista Living doesn’t appear when they search “dementia care phoenix” or “assisted living in phoenix”, it isn’t on their shortlist.

The Drop: Traffic Fell 83% in Four Months

Through 2025, the site drew a steady 1,000 to 1,300 estimated organic visits a month. In early 2026 that collapsed: 957 visits in January, 392 in April and just 166 in May.

Two things lined up:

  • The site lost authority.Referring domains fell from 179 in December 2025 to 126 in March 2026, and Domain Rating dropped from 50 to 35.
  • Google released two core updates. The March 2026 core update rolled out from March 27 to April 8 and the May 2026 core update from May 21 to June 2. Senior care is a “Your Money or Your Life” topic, which Google holds to a higher standard of trust.

What we found in the audit:

Our first Ahrefs site audit in March 2026 found 16 pages with errors and 119 with warnings:

  • Lost links.About 50 referring domains disappeared between December and March, taking Domain Rating from 50 to 35.
  • Orphan pages.9 pages had no internal links pointing to them, and 16 more had only one, so Google could barely find them.
  • Broken paths.A 404 page, a canonical tag pointing to a redirect, a redirect chain and 17 pages linking to redirected URLs.
  • Pages competing with each other. The homepage and the Paradise Valley page both ranked for “paradise valley memory care”, splitting their strength.
  • Missing or messy headings.14 pages had no H1 heading and 12 had more than one.
  • Weak search snippets.21 pages had no meta description and 8 titles were too long to show in full.
  • Slow, heavy pages.8 slow pages, 5 oversized images and 3 oversized CSS files.
  • Accessibility gaps.107 images had no alt text, which matters on a site read by older adults and their families.
  • Indexing gaps.9 indexable pages were missing from the sitemap, and the structured data had a schema.org validation error.

Our Recovery Plan: Rebuild Trust, Then Rankings

Core updates don’t come with a checklist, so we focused on what Google says it rewards in health-related topics: clear, trustworthy, people-first content from a business that proves who it is. For a senior care provider, that means showing families exactly who will care for their parent and where.

Goals agreed with the client:

How we sequenced the work:

  1. Audit what changedin rankings, pages and links before touching anything.
  2. Strengthen trust signalsacross the site: licensing, care team, caregiver ratios and real reviews.
  3. Give each care type and neighborhood one clear page, so pages stop competing with each other.
  4. Rebuild authoritywith relevant local and senior-care links.
  5. Track rankings weeklyand adjust as each update settled.

What We Did: The Work Behind the Recovery

Each step below fixed a problem from the audit and is tied to pages that now rank.

1. Built one page per care type and neighborhood

What we did: Created a dedicated page for each care type (assisted living, memory care, dementia care and Alzheimer’s care) in each area (Phoenix, Arcadia, Paradise Valley and near Scottsdale), 16 pages in all.

Why it mattered: Each page now answers one search. The Paradise Valley assisted living page ranks #1 for “assisted living paradise valley”, and the Alzheimer’s care page ranks #1 for “dementia home care phoenix”.

2. Made trust visible on every page

What we did: Added the Arizona Department of Health Services licensing, the 2-caregivers-per-10-residents ratio, a Meet the Team page and family testimonials.

Why it mattered: Google’s quality guidelines ask for extra trust on health-related topics. Families ask the same questions Google does: who will care for Mom, and are they qualified?

3. Improved the core service pages

What we did: Rewrote the memory care and assisted living pages with clearer care details and FAQs, gave every page one H1 and a proper meta description, and linked the care and location pages to each other.

Why it mattered: The memory care page climbed from #31 to #6 for “dementia care phoenix az” between May and October.

4. Rebuilt authority with relevant links

What we did: Earned links from senior-care directories, local Phoenix sites and healthcare partners.

Why it mattered: Domain Rating has recovered from 34 in July to 40 in October.

5. Google Business Profile for each home

What we did: Optimized each home’s profile with the right categories, services, photos and reviews.

Proof: [GBP Performance screenshot: calls, website clicks and direction requests, dated]

6. Fixed the technical issues

What we did: Linked the 9 orphan pages into the site, fixed the 404, the redirect chain and the canonical pointing to a redirect, added the missing pages to the sitemap, compressed images, added alt text and fixed the structured data.

Why it mattered: Pages with technical errors fell from 16 in March to 2 in October, and Google can now reach every care and location page.

7. Disavowed a spam link attack

What we did: Identified about 250 automated spam domains linking to the site and disavowed them in Google Search Console.

Why it mattered: It stops a spam network from dragging down a site Google was already re-evaluating.

8. Set up inquiry tracking and an automated chat pop-up

What we did: Added tracking for calls, tour requests and form inquiries, plus an automated chat pop-up so families can ask questions at any hour.

Why it mattered: Every inquiry can now be traced back to search, and families who aren’t ready to call still have a way to reach the team.

The Results: Traffic Up 178% and Core Keywords on Page 1

From the May low, organic traffic grew 178% and the site’s core care keywords moved from pages 2 to 4 into the top 5.

Family inquiries

Rankings only matter if families call. Before the campaign, Vista Living had no reliable way to see which inquiries came from search, so we set up tracking for calls, tour requests and forms, and added an automated chat pop-up for families researching after hours. Based on the traffic recovery and typical inquiry rates for senior living sites, we estimate tour requests from search rose from about 4 a month at the May low to about 12 a month in October. The clearest sign came from the client: Executive Director Dean Hency emailed the team to say the phones were “hot” (see his message below).

What Drove the Recovery (and What We Can’t Prove)

The recovery came in two waves. Traffic jumped from 166 to 471 in June, right after the May core update finished, which suggests Google reassessed the site’s quality. Rankings then climbed steadily, and the biggest gains came between September and October, when “assisted living facilities in phoenix az” moved from #12 to #2 and “dementia home care phoenix” from #27 to #1. We can’t separate the effect of our work from Google’s own updates, and rankings were volatile along the way: “dementia care phoenix” briefly dropped out of the top 100 in July and August before returning at #8. Traffic is also still below its 2025 level of around 1,000 visits a month, so this recovery isn’t finished. We also dealt with a spam attack. From May 2026, about 250 automated spam domains on numbered .xyz sites (such as 37486402.xyz) began linking to the site. We didn’t build these links. We disavowed them in Google Search Console so they can’t count against Vista Living, and we monitor new links monthly.

What We Learned

  • On health-related topics, trust signals come first.Licensing, caregiver ratios and real team members give families and Google the same reassurance.
  • One page per care type and area beats one page for everything.Pages started ranking for their own searches once they stopped competing with each other.
  • Expect volatility during a recovery.Rankings moved up and down for months before settling. Clients need to hear that before, not during.
  • What we’d do differently: monitor links from day one.The site quietly lost about 50 referring domains before the drop. Monthly link checks would have caught it sooner.
  • Track inquiries, not just rankings. We set up inquiry tracking and an automated chat pop-up, so every tour request can be tied back to search.

What the Vista Living Team Says

Dean Hency, Executive Director at Vista Living Senior Care, Inc., sent this short email to the team as calls picked up. For a care home, a busy phone means families booking tours, and that’s the result this campaign was built for.

I was really stressed because my website had zero visibility and I was getting almost no organic traffic despite all my hard work. I reached out to Cyrel, and he quickly identified that my site was buried because of some major technical SEO glitches and poor optimization. It was a huge relief to have an expert take over the heavy lifting so I could finally start appearing in search results. As an expert in SEO and Website management, Cyrel didn't just give me a bunch of technical jargon; he actually got in there and fixed the indexing issues and slow loading speeds that were hurting my search rankings. He cleaned up my site structure and helped me target the right keywords that my customers are actually typing into Google. It’s rare to find someone who is so easy to work with while being so knowledgeable about the back-end stuff. The results have been awesome, and I’m finally seeing my business show up on the first page for my target services. I used to worry about my site being invisible to potential clients, but now I’m seeing a steady stream of leads coming through. If you are struggling to rank or just want your site to perform better, Cyrel is definitely the professional you need to call!

Frequently Asked Questions

It varies. Some sites recover partly within weeks, but many only see big changes at the next core update. In this campaign, traffic began to rebound right after the May 2026 core update, and rankings kept improving for five months.

Google treats health, care and money topics as “Your Money or Your Life” and expects stronger proof of expertise and trust. Sites that don’t show who provides the care, how they’re licensed and what real families say are more exposed.

Usually, yes. In this case the focus was on clearer care and location pages, visible trust signals and rebuilding authority, not a full redesign.
